Delirium in the Era of COVID-19

Delirium is associated with poor outcomes in hospitalized older adults. Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), research has shown an increase in delirium rates. As a result, a CNL (Dr. Tru Byrnes), two Clinical Nurse Specialists, and a research expert partnered to explore the prevalence of delirium in hospitalized COVID positive older adult patients. Their research also evaluated correlations with age, gender, length of stay (LOS), occurrence of an ICU admission or transfer, and in-hospital mortality within 2 hospitals in the southeast region of the United States. This work was published in the first quarter issue of 2024 within the Journal of Nursing Care Quality.
